Wireless phone service provider Visible is perhaps best known for offering just one data plan – a low-cost option with unlimited calls, texts and data that ranks among the best prepaid phone plans. But the Verizon-owned phone carrier is mixing things up by doubling the number of unlimited data plans it offers.
Visible’s old plan remains, but at a lower price than the $40 per month the carrier previously charged. Now at $30 per month including taxes and fees, the Visible plan continues to provide unlimited calls, texts and data on Verizon’s network, as well as unlimited hotspot usage. You get 5G coverage, albeit through Verizon’s nationwide 5G network, not the carrier’s faster Ultra Wideband service.
That faster ultra-wideband 5G is now part of the new Visible Plus plan, which costs $45 per month. This plan also promises unlimited data, with 50GB of premium service. (Under Visible’s cheaper plan, your data speed may be slowed if Verizon’s network is congested.) at no additional cost.
“We don’t necessarily lose anything on simplicity,” said Angie Klein, CEO of Visible and Chief Revenue Officer of Tracfone & Verizon Prepaid.
Visible’s revamped plans compare favorably to competitors’ best cheap phone plans. Tello offers a $29 unlimited data plan, and you can also get unlimited data from Mint Mobile for $30 a month, as long as you commit to one year of service. Visible’s new $30 price brings its plan in line with those rival options.
Regarding Visible Plus, Klein told Tom’s Guide that the addition of international calling addresses a feature requested by Visible customers. “We listened to our members and what they wanted, and it was extra features that our basic plan doesn’t have,” she said.
Faster 5G coverage through Verizon’s network is also a big plus for Visible’s new plan. While Verizon’s nationwide network can reach more than 230 million people, speeds lag behind T-Mobile 5G. Ultra Wideband, which consists of Verizon’s millimeter wave towers as well as its newly launched 5G C-band coverage, boosts speeds in areas where it’s available.
Visible’s revamped range of plans offers an attractive offer for people looking for discounts across multiple lines. Visible’s Party Pay program has reduced prices as you add more data lines, with groups of four or more being able to get unlimited data for just $25 per line. Party Pay is not among the new plans, Klein said.
Instead, Visible seems to be promoting customer referrals as a way to lower your monthly phone bill. Visible customers who refer others to the service can get $20 off their monthly rate, with the ability to accumulate 12 months of referral discounts. Referred customers also get $20 off their first month of service with Visible.
Existing Party Pay customers will be able to keep their discounts, with the option to change their plans by October 18.
The new Visible pricing goes into effect today (August 17), with new customers able to sign up for the $30 Visible or $45 Visible Plus plan. Existing customers can also switch to either plan, although they will need to get a new SIM card from Visible.
