The results of the Sunday Times Top Brands survey showed that Vodacom is the number one telecommunications brand in South Africa, followed by MTN and Cell C.
Coca-Cola was ranked as SA’s preferred consumer brand (index score 94.13), followed by Koo (93.96) and KFC (90.85).
Telecommunications providers
The results of the 15th edition of the survey revealed that for telecom providers, Vodacom again ranked first (76.93), followed by MTN and Cell C. Telkom and 8ta (now Telkom Mobile) were classified at numbers 4 and 5.
The survey noted that MTN was first and foremost for “the most spontaneously aware” and also the most used brand in the industry.
Mobile phones
For mobile phones, Nokia again tops the list with an index of 83.70, far ahead of BlackBerry at 68.28.
Samsung was third at 61.85, followed by Apple’s iPhone at 55.89 and LG at 38.76.
Social networks
The Sunday Times also ranked the top brands in the social media space, with Facebook winning ahead of Google+, followed by Twitter and YouTube.

TV service providers were also ranked, with e-tv ranking ahead of SABC1, DStv Premium, SABC2, DStc Compact, SABC3 and TopTv, last.
