Melita is offering a €5 credit to anyone who returns their old mobile phone as part of a sustainability campaign.
He said that throughout this week, until October 26, he was running an e-waste campaign and offering anyone who shows up with an old phone at one of his stores a €5 account credit ( not per handset), or a €5 credit on a prepaid SIM card for those who are not Melita customers.
Charlie Karakas, Senior Product Manager at Melita, said: “Mobile phones are made of many materials which can be reused and thus reduce the pressure on the environment. Recycling also ensures that potentially harmful substances are handled properly, rather than degrading in landfills. It’s a green opportunity that will give you something back, while sparking joy by cleaning up the mess!
The campaign follows the company’s recent participation in European Sustainability Week, where more than 100 employees took part in a series of initiatives, including collecting 320 kilograms of waste during a Gnejna bay.
Employees also collected €682 in food vouchers – Melita rounded that up to €1,000 – which was donated to the soup kitchen, along with five large boxes of food and toiletries.
Melita teams bought 34 trees, which employees will plant in the coming weeks, while €100 was used to buy a gift as part of the Children’s Dreams campaign, aimed at vulnerable young people.
