T-Mobile has established itself as a fairly competitive carrier over the past decade. Offer packages that are cheaper than the competition and, in many ways, better. But even T-Mobile doesn’t just have one plan, it has multiple plans for you to choose from. Each of them is excellent in itself.
However, which one will suit you best, how do you use your phone and your lifestyle? That’s what we’re here to determine. In this article, you will learn about the best postpaid plan, the best plan for those who travel a lot, the best prepaid plan and the best MVNO that you can choose for using the T-Mobile network.
Postpaid vs Prepaid vs MVNO
Before we start, it is important to talk about the differences between Postpaid, Prepaid and MVNO. Postpaid services are customers who pay for their service after receiving it. This means your final bill will be higher than your first bill. Prepaid basically means that you pay for your service before you receive it. And MVNO stands for Mobile Virtual Network Operator, they basically buy access to T-Mobile’s network at wholesale rates. That’s why it can be much cheaper than getting a postpaid plan.
As for coverage, all three will offer the same coverage, if they are on the same network. The difference here is going to be in the occupied areas. On a network tower, postpaid customers are given priority, followed by prepaid customers. MVNO customers are all the way down, but a T-Mobile owned MVNO might be a bit higher than other MVNOs because it’s still a T-Mobile company. Metro by T-Mobile is owned by T-Mobile.
Smartphone selection is another difference here. While postpaid customers have access to almost every smartphone available, prepaid and MVNOs have far fewer options for customers. Also, they usually don’t offer any financing, so you have to go through a third party, like Samsung (and buy unlocked).
Now that you know the difference between postpaid, prepaid, and MVNO, let’s get started.
Best Overall T-Mobile Plan: Magenta
For the majority of people, the Magenta plan will be the best option. Magenta will cost you $70 per month for a single line, or as little as $35 per month, per line for four lines. Remember that with Magenta, your taxes and fees are included in this price.
With T-Mobile’s Magenta plan, you’ll get unlimited talk, text, and data like you’ve come to expect. You’ll also get 100GB of premium data, after which you may be throttled. It also offers 5GB of high-speed data for the mobile hotspot, after which it’s unlimited at 3G speeds. 5G and Ultra Capacity 5G are included in the package.
When it comes to benefits, T-Mobile has stayed pretty light. You can get the Netflix Basic plan (which is a screen in SD quality) if you have two or more lines. If you want to switch to its other plans, the difference will be charged to your T-Mobile account. It also only does SD streaming on its network, regardless of the video service.

Best T-Mobile Plan for Travelers: Magenta MAX
If you travel a lot or can’t use WiFi that much, then Magenta MAX will be the best option for you. This plan will cost you $85/month for a single line, or as low as $43/month per line for four lines. Like the Magenta plan, this also includes taxes and fees included in this price.
This plan offers unlimited calls, texts and data. But where it really differs from Magenta is that you get unlimited premium data. This means that your speeds will not be limited. You may experience slower speeds in congested areas, however, and that’s only because the network is struggling. Mobile Hotspot comes with 40GB of high-speed data and unlimited 3G data thereafter. It will also stream in 4K, but keep in mind that you will need to activate it on your account. This plan also includes 5G and 5G Ultra Capacity speeds.
For the perks, Netflix is a bit easier to add to your account here. For a single line, you can add Netflix Basic for free. If you have two or more lines, you can get Netflix Standard included, which offers dual screens and HD.
